Environmental Alternatives
Since the company began, New England Woodcraft has recognized the need to practice environmentally sound principles, that allow us to minimize effects on the world around us, while producing high quality furniture. We are an industry leader in our approach to reducing pollutants and promoting the protection of our natural resources.
When choosing high quality raw materials, New England Woodcraft uses materials that are environmentally friendly.
New England Woodcraft has long been recognized for our development of non-solvent based finishing processes. We have received awards and recognition from both the State of Vermont and the EPA for our committed to reducing pollutants by reducing VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions from our finishing processes. We have accomplished this by eliminating solvent base finishes and investing in state-of- the-art finishing equipment.
- The lumber used in the construction of our products comes from sustained yield growth forests. In these managed yield forests, the amount of wood harvested is less than the amount grown in any given year. This ensures the continued existence of these forests for generations to come.
- New England Woodcraft Inc., utilizes only hardwood and decorative plywood that meet the American National Standard Institutes (ANSI) Formaldehyde Emission Requirements of less than 0.20 (ppm). This specification can be found in Section 3.12 of the American National Standard for Hardwood and Decorative Plywood handbook.
- We purchase packaging materials made from recycled materials such as corner protectors and cardboard.
New England Woodcraft also recycles byproducts from our manufacturing processes.
- Cardboard from our received product shipments is collected, bundled, and sent to local recyclers.
- Waste wood product, including scrap from our production processes and pallets, are ground into sawdust, and then given to local dairy farmers for use as an organic bedding material for their livestock.
- Waste metal and plastics are segregated for recycling.
At New England Woodcraft, we are always looking for new materials and practices
that help reduce pollutants and protect natural resources. We are committed to
remain a leader in the industry with regard to environmental issues.
